How to Export WhatsApp Group Contacts to Excel

Whatsapp now officially offers a dedicated web version that lets users access the application on their computers this is a great way to access many of the same core whatsapp features that you find on the mobile version now on your desktop so for our first method here's how you can manually export contacts from whatsapp groups to excel for this example we'll be using the chrome browser however these steps are very similar in other web browsers too the first method that i'll share doesn't require any other tools or extensions to work 

however as i'll show in just a few moments it does have a lot of limitations that you need to keep in mind as it doesn't work for all chats or groups to begin you first need to log into whatsapp web from your computer before we can export your contacts go to web.whatsapp.com on your pc on your phone that has whatsapp already logged into tap menu settings and select link devices now scan the qr code that's on your pc screen with your phone once it's scanned your whatsapp account will be logged into on the pc web browser with your account logged in on your chrome browser you'll notice that the layout is very similar to what you would see on your phone at the top of the page is where it shows the contact or group members in the chat on your web browser right click inspect or you can use the keyboard shortcut ctrl shift i this will open the inspector window and 

if you're unfamiliar with it it may look intimidating but don't worry all you need to do is right click on the highlighted section that just popped up on your screen click copy copy outer html after copying this html we can use any text editor to clean up the unwanted code to help us better organize our contacts after doing so you can now copy the data to excel or google sheets we can use the paste option to transpose our data that way the contacts are pasted to specific columns instead of a single row and this will make it easier to see our various contact info but as you might be able to tell this method only works for group contact information that hasn't actually been saved to your phone any contact that has been saved to your phone will only show up with their name but it won't show up with their phone number as such you cannot extract numbers using this method if they are saved to your contacts this is obviously a major limitation however the next method is actually easier and will copy and automatically export all our contact data in a single step 

once we set it up and because of those limitations i'm not a fan of the first method but using this free chrome extension this fixes everything from the chrome extension store search for download whatsapp group phone number there are a few similar options but to follow along this tutorial download and use this one after installing the chrome extension restart the chrome browser and reopen web.whatsapp.com log into your whatsapp account 

if you haven't already using the steps we shared earlier the page will look the same but we now have a hidden feature open the desired group chat that you want to save the contact information from tap the chat options by clicking the three dots from the top right corner you'll now see a brand new option called download info will bring up a dialog to save an excel file you can rename and save this file anywhere you like and opening it up we can already see a huge difference compared to the first method we showed our contacts are now automatically organized by country code display name phone number and it even has a true false

 if they are already saved as our contact this method is hands down a much better solution just install the simple extension and you can easily extract and save your group contact info in just one step now if that last method seemed pretty cool we have one last solution that is even more feature packed and is great if you want more control over your backups unlike the last two methods this next one actually allows you to backup your group chat data including its images and other media attachments this makes it especially useful for peace of mind in case your phone is ever lost stolen or you're switching to a new device using our mobile trans whatsapp transfer tool you can transfer backup and restore all your whatsapp data to and from as many devices as you want whenever you want and in just a few clicks we'll have a complete backup of our entire whatsapp account so let's show you how you can do this first install mobiletrans on your computer the download is free with the option to upgrade your account for more advanced features and backups next connect your phone to the computer select backup and restore app backup and restore backup and click whatsapp with your phone connected you'll see it on the left hand side as the source device in my case i'm using an iphone 13. 

if you're using an iphone like me you can click continue to start the backup process as it's automatic for iphone users if on the other hand you're using an android there are a few more steps required you'll first need to do a backup of your phone before you can proceed with the pc backup to do this open whatsapp on your phone and navigate to settings chats chat backup and perform a backup and for android users once you've completed that you can move to the next step back in mobile trans clicking start begins the transfer process to the computer and as stated earlier the process will complete automatically for iphone users for android users your whatsapp account on your phone will restart and then prompt you to follow a few on phone steps which now includes a lot of automated steps to make it even more easy you'll now wait for the backup to complete backup time will depend on how many chats media and attachments you have once your backup is saved to your pc you can now view all your chats and attachments and the most important part is that we now have the ability to export those chats either to an html file or pdf or we can view it right within the mobile trans app this allows us to see all our contact information from our chats we also have access to much more and because
